Last June Robbie and I went to Charlottesville for a date to celebrate his first 1,000 run since he decided to run ultras. Well a few weeks ago we realized that he had almost hit 2,000 miles so we decided to make Charlottesville a tradition for celebrating every 1,000 miles! Plus we really needed an “us” day to destress so I was excited to have a whole day just to spend with my best friend!
I love Charlottesville for many reasons. It’s super close to us (only an hour to hour and a half drive), it’s adorable, and their are so many cute shops and stores! The main draw for me is whole foods, I LOVE that store!
When we first got to Charlottesville, I spotted a Trader Joes so we decided to make a quick stop. We found these dark chocolate peanutbutter cups for only 99 cents! My favorite dessert is anything chocolate + peanutbutter and these were possibly the best I’ve ever tasted! While not healthy, they did have limited ingredients and was totally worth the splurge, I can’t wait to go back and get more!
Next we stopped at the Platos Closet they have and did a little shopping. Robbie needed some new shorts and we were able to find him a few pairs of nice Hollister ones!
Right near platos closet was Whole Foods so we just had to stop by and grab some drinks even though we planned to shop later.
And Robbie got a guilty pleasure…cherry vanilla creme soda or as I like to call it: melted skittles in a can. I had a tiny sip because I just don’t understand how people like this stuff and about gagged. Then Robbie laughed at me and I couldn’t stop laughing long enough to drink and get the taste out of my mouth. It was a terrible 60 seconds with that taste in my mouth 😉
When we went to Charlottesville last year, we went downtown and ate at a place called Revolutionary Soup then grabbed some ice cream. We had planned to do the same thing this time, but we got downtown and realized that there was some kind of festival going on. Crowds make me nervous and I wouldn’t have enjoyed our time, so we decided to see where else we could eat.
We went back to the shopping center where Trader Joes is and walked around a few of the stores. Robbie was drooling over everything in the Blue Ridge Mountain Sports store. That place was heaven for him! We were really excited to find him this green headlamp! He needed a new one plus his favorite color is green so it was perfect!
We decided it was time to eat so we walked over to Noodles & Company. I’d never been there before but I had heard great reviews and was excited to try it!
Robbie ordered a different dish and it was ok, but after having a bite of mine it couldn’t even compare! I made him go back and order what I got so that he could enjoy his meal. We found out after that they do free meal replacements so they gave him a ticket for a free meal next time since he’d already paid.
I can’t wait to go back soon! This is one of my favorite restaurants I’ve ever eaten at, plus it’s so affordable! I’ve been dreaming of the next time I can go back and order these noodles again! It tasted so fresh and I have an easily upset stomach but this made me feel awesome.
After dinner we went to another shopping center that was only a few minutes away. A few stores we wanted to see were already closed but we went into this cute little cookware shop. This was heaven for me! They had so much cute stuff! I got a few napkins to use for props in pictures and we also got a few cute little cookie cutters.
The main reason we’d come to this shopping center was to try to find something Life is Good for Robbie. He really needs a hat but we didn’t have any luck. This shirt was PERFECT for him but they didn’t have his size 🙁 I need to order it online soon!
There was a little health food store on the same strip so we walked in to see what they have. This is the brand of coconut water that we buy and I had no idea until now they made different flavors! We went back and forth on buying this, thinking it would either be really good or really bad. It was a day of adventure so we decided to go for it! No regrets, this stuff was good! It’s hard to describe the taste, but it was definitely coffee tasting and coconut tasting…a little weird but we loved it!
At the end of the strip there was a Kroger so we decided to go in and get some ice cream. We had considered going to Ben & Jerry’s but I’d been feeling good all day and didn’t want it to make me feel sick (a lot of sugar and dairy can upset my stomach.) This Cashew Milk ice cream just came out recently and I couldn’t wait to try it!
Let me just say this: whoever discovered how to make this is genius! Literally the best ice cream I’ve ever had, dairy or non dairy. We couldn’t believe how creamy and rich and delicious it was! While I’ve had other non dairy ice cream, this one blows all the rest out of the water. I’ve also tried the Cappucino flavor and it’s amazing too!
It was starting to get late so we headed to Whole Foods before they closed. We like going there and finding a couple little new things to try.
Robbie loves queso, so I was excited when I spotted this. I like Pacific brand and figured it would be good. I made him nachos last night using it and he loved it! Definitely a splurge, but he really enjoyed it!
And my favorite find of the day was these southern style white corn grits. I literally jumped up and down when I found them! I had looked at probably 8-10 different stores because I didn’t want to order them online. I was so glad Whole Foods had them! We have been using the polenta grits and they are good, but these are even better! They taste more like the unhealthy instant grits that you buy at the store. They don’t take long to make and are insanely delicious, I highly recommend them!
