Hello and welcome back to the next installment of my blogging income series!
In January of this year, I decided to start sharing monthly traffic and income reports for my blog. My goals for my blog have always been to 1) do something that I love and 2) make an income from it. Goal #1 came right away, and goal #2 is something that I am working on day by day, month by month. I hope you find these income reports useful as I come back each month sharing how I’ve grown, what I’ve tried, and changes I plan to implement.
INCOME THIS MONTH
- Sovrn – $79.25
- Gourmet Ads – $43.67
- Swoop – $15.20
- Sponsored Posts – $150
- Google Adsense – $43.91
- MediaVine – $41.86
TOTAL February Income: $373.89
February RPM: (Revenue/Pageviews) x 1,000 = $5.04
A big change made this month:
- At the very end of February, I made the decision to join MediaVine. I’ve been hearing the blogger buzz about MediaVine and was very intrigued. I had currently been setting up my own ad network waterfalls using sovrn, gourmet ads, and google adsense. Unfortunately, to properly optimize my revenue, I would have had to spend a lot more time (and have more knowledge on the subject) than I currently did. Since I have yet to pass the 100k/month threshold, I had never joined any contracted networks like the Adthrive and the Blogger Network. MediaVine was free, I met the pageview requirements (over 30k/month), and most importantly their RPMs were higher even in crummy Q1 than what my combined income was across ad networks. Since they are exclusive, this means I will no longer be running sovrn, gourmet ads, swoop, and adsense on my blog. I calculated what my ad income RPM was and realized that I really had nothing to lose as a small blogger plus it would take off ad management from my plate. Another huge plus is that they pay you more for less ads – giving me a cleaner look. I’ve been running MediaVine on my site now for almost a week and am loving it so far! I’ve already made more per day than I had with all my previous ad networks combined. I’m excited to see how MediaVine continues to work for my blog!
PAGEVIEWS THIS MONTH
February brought my highest monthly pageviews yet! My 100k/month far off goal is getting closer and closer. Crazy to see that 10,763 people were repeat visitors to my blog this month! I’m excited to watch my returning visitors continue to grow!
Yummly went WAY up for me in referrals this month. What did I do? Well, I created a publisher account and followed their guidelines for that. Then on my personal account, I went through and “yummed” all of my recipes to my personal recipe box. That’s it and I have seen consistent traffic every day from yummly. I’m always looking for new streams of referrals for traffic and am pleased with the look and feel of yummly! It’s such an easy way to organize your recipes from all across the web. I highly recommend it (and it’s free to join!)
Each month, I’m sharing my social media growth from the month before. Here’s February’s results:
- Facebook – 873 (up 19)
- Pinterest – 1351 (up 298)
- Instagram – 320 (up 18)
- Twitter – 317 (up 5)
Everything but Pinterest grew painfully slow again this month. Once I hit 1k on Pinterest, I started gaining followers like crazy! It took over a year to get to 1k followers on Pinterest, and now just this month I gained almost 300 new followers. If only the rest of my social media would grow that quickly!
Well, that’s it for this month’s report. If you’re an aspiring blogger, be sure to check out my post I published on How to Start a Blog.
