Hey guys! Welcome back to my latest series: monthly traffic and income reports from my blog!
Each month I’m sharing with you my stats, insights, income, and what I’ve been working on to improve that month. Blogging is a long term investment of yourself. I spend hours upon hours of (unpaid) time doing research, finding ways to better my blog, learning new things, etc in addition to actually blogging itself. I love Bjork and Lindsay’s (from Pinch of Yum) saying: One percent infinity. Basically your goal with blogging should to be improving by 1% each day…forever. Day by day you might not feel like you’re accomplishing much, but in time you’ll reap the results of your hard and consistent work.

My income this month was way down from December, but I expected that. In the blogging world, the last few months of the year are always the most profitable. Come January, the companies have already spent all their money on advertising and cut way back. And us bloggers don’t make nearly as much ad revenue during this time. Although my page views were up by almost 16k, I made less income. Unfortunately, that’s just the way it works this time of year.
On a high note: my page views were my highest yet again this month! They have been steadily growing and my 100k/month goal suddenly doesn’t seem so far out of reach. February is looking pretty great so far so I’m hoping it stays that way!
These were my top 10 sources of traffic in January. As usual, Pinterest is King. Pinterest has been my #1 referral for awhile now…which I both love and hate. Algorithms change, so it’s a little scary when your number one referral depends on it. My google/organic searches have been growing exponentially in the last few months and I hope to see that continue. Organic search is one of the most sustainable traffic sources over time.
My social media numbers as of the end of January were as follows:
- Facebook: 854
- Pinterest: 1,053
- Instagram: 302
- Twitter: 312
Social media really feels like the bane of my existence some days. Facebook seems to have a plateau recently and is growing ever so slowly. Same thing with Instagram. My Pinterest does seem to be doing fairly well. And twitter…well I just hate it. I never spend time on there and it shows. Definitely an area I need to improve. I’ll be sharing updated numbers each month to show how I’m growing!
Although these are income reports, I want to stress the importance of this not being your only measure of success for your blog. It took me 9 months before I made any money blogging. Even now, I’m tempted to think that making $300-$600/month is nothing compared to what some bloggers make. But then I remind myself that when I first started blogging, I dreamed of even making $100. $300 is nothing to sneeze at and I’ve definitely worked hard and I’m proud of the progress I make, no matter how big or small.
Just like any long term goal, the further you get into it, the more you realize that it’s not as much about the final destination, but about the journey and what you learn along the way. My blog is something that I’ve poured my heart into. It’s something that I can see tangible results in, results that sometimes take months to be seen. Blogging for me is about learning and growing and trying to keep bettering my blog, day by day, month by month. Those little changes really do add up over time.
Well, that’s it for this month’s report! As always, if you’re a blogger and have any questions, I’m happy to help in any way I can! You can contact me at email@example.com
