Robbie ran the Mill Mountain Mayhem 10k in Roanoke, Virginia last weekend. He had originally signed up to do the Explore Your Limits 10k in February but got sick and wasn’t able to go. He had to have another race as part of the rnuts non ultra series that he is doing, so he decided to sign up for Mill Mountain. He had never run this race before and was excited to experience it for the first time!
The top of the course goes to this star on Mill Mountain, before heading back down to the finish line. We got up around 6 a.m. race morning and left the house by 7. Roanoke is only an hour drive, so that was nice to be able to sleep in a little since the race didn’t start until 9. We got to the race by 8:15 and found a place to park. It was a beautiful morning and the weather was just perfect!
This race had one of the weirdest starting lines. Normally the start/finish is in the same location, but all the runners had to walk almost half a mile to the start line. I walked with Robbie so that I could get some start pictures. It was definitely strange that they didn’t just start the race where it ended, but I guess it would have been too long.
This race was really difficult with a lot of uphill in the beginning. Then it transitioned to a rolling section followed by more uphill, then ending with 2 miles of downhill.
