Two summers ago, I got a call that would change my life. I was working an office job and had just started volunteering for the local humane society. One day my mom called me and told me about this little kitten that could be heard meowing outside of a business that was mere feet away from a busy 4 lane highway. I know that you can’t save every animal out there, but this poor helpless baby pulled on my heart strings.
So I decided to do something. Each day at 7 a.m. before work and after 5 when I got off, I would go over and take the kitten a can of food. He was very skittish and even the slightest move would make him run and hide. This went on for 3 weeks. I’d come over, dressed in my office clothes, and sit on the ground and talk to him. I’d talk softly in a high pitched voice, a voice that is now my “tommy voice.” If I didn’t see him, I would start meowing. Call me crazy cat lady, but it worked! As I sat on the ground with the sound of cars whizzing down below, I would talk to him and meow…and he would meow back! It melted my heart. He was so young and helpless and I just wanted to save him.
I had tried capturing him several times, but he got too smart to go into the crate even though he was hungry. Each time it would take me several days to earn back his trust. Then one day, with the help of the humane society director, I finally got my chance! We tied a string onto the door of the crate and ran it through the back. I sat on the ground and talked to him until he appeared, hoping that he would venture into the crate for some food. Heart pounding, I kept as still as possible and kept talking to him as he inched closer. Once he was in, I yanked hard on the string and quickly closed the door! I couldn’t believe after 3 weeks I’d finally caught him!
I named him Tommy and he quickly became a part of the family. Although he’s still shy, I got to watch him start to come out of his shell. As he grew, he loved me more, and his favorite place was snuggled up next to me on the bed.
Once I started volunteering with the humane society, I began to realize even more how important it is to feed your fur babies quality food. Just like I believe in eating healthy for me, I believe in buying nutritious food for my animals. Plus, you don’t have to go to a specialty store to find what you need! IAMS also offers foods for your pet throughout their lifespan, and there’s different kinds for your pet’s individual needs!
I love that Target carries IAMS food. IAMS is a brand I trust to feed my animals. Plus, I love that when I do my other shopping for clothes or groceries, I don’t have to stop anywhere else, I can just pick it up while I’m at Target! I am currently obsessed with their cartwheel app! I love anything that will save me more money! All you have to do is install the app on your phone, sign in, and start loading coupons! Cartwheel currently has some great savings on IAMS:

Tommy has grown a lot from the scared, flea infested kitten I rescued that July day 2 years ago. He’s now a part of my family, and I absolutely adore him! I love using my “Tommy voice” to call him, it works every time. Sure, I may sound like I crazy cat lady if you hear me loudly saying in a high pitched voice “Ohh Haiiiiiii Itttyyy Bittty”, but it’s our love language, him and I.
I can’t imagine life without my sweet Tommy boy!
Is Target your One Stop Pet Shop? Do you have a rescue animal? I’d love to hear your story!
