It’s January again, which means you’ve probably seen lots of New Year’s resolutions popping up in your news feed. Whether it’s to start a new career, get healthier, or to make more money, most people use January as a way to start off the New Year on the right foot. I personally do not make resolutions, but I do think that any reason to better yourself is a great reason!
Starting to “live healthy” can seem daunting if you’ve never done it before. I truly believe that people think being healthier is more difficult than it really is. Just like anything in life, it’s all about taking small steps that eventually build up to a better you over time. Today I’m sharing 5 of my favorite easy ways to kickstart your healthy lifestyle!
1. Buy a 32 ounce water bottle to take to work
Most everyone knows that drinking a lot of water is good for you, but it’s a struggle for them to make a habit out of drinking more. One thing I recommend is to buy a large water bottle that you can take to work with you with the goal of drinking one (or two or three) a day. This is a great visual guide to help you start to up your water intake!
2. Drink More Smoothies
When most people think of “healthy smoothies” they may picture a gross green slimy drink that tastes like feet…well I can say that those are possible to drink, but not the only healthy smoothie out there! Smoothies are a fantastically easy way to get more nutrition into your diet. Throw in a few frozen banana chunks, some all natural peanutbutter, a little honey and flaxseed, a handful of spinach, and some almond milk and you have yourself a delicious and nutrition packed drink! Smoothies to me are an endless canvass of possibilities. Start experimenting with different fruits and maybe even some protein powder!
3. Start Incorporating Exercise…Slowly
One of the main reasons that New Year’s resolutions (or healthy resolutions in general) fail is because you start off too strong and don’t have the motivation and physicality to keep it up. If your goal is running a 5k, don’t start off running! Start off with a medium or fast paced 1 mile walk around your neighborhood and build up from there. It’s all about consistency when it comes to exercise. Find an exercise that you like (you don’t have to be a runner! or crossfitter!) and start finding a few minutes a day to do it!
4. Snack Better
goodnessknows® snack squares are one of my hubby’s new favorite snacks! With him being both a runner and working two physical jobs, I’m always on the lookout for things that he would like to eat throughout the day.
We bought these snack squares at Walmart right up front near the registers. They have three flavors: goodnessknows® Cranberry, Almond, Dark Chocolate, goodnessknows® Apple, Almond & Peanut, Dark Chocolate, and goodnessknows® Peach & Cherry, Almond, Dark Chocolate.
I love how unique the flavors of these snack squares are. They are made with real fruit, dark chocolate, and nuts! The combination of the fruit with the chocolate is seriously a game changer. When my husband first tried these, he said they were the best he’d had in a long time! I never knew snack squares could taste so good!
Snacks are such an important part of our everyday eating, and I think that little changes can go a long way in making a big impact over time. These snack squares would make a great pre/post workout treat!
5. Celebrate Little Victories
Little victories are one of my favorite ways to celebrate. It’s not true that only your “final goal” should be celebrated. It’s all of those little changes and swaps that will make the difference in the long run. So don’t beat yourself up if you aren’t where you want to be. Instead, start implementing little changes that will make a big difference in the big picture! And be proud of how far you’ve come!
Question: Have you tried goodnessknows® snack squares? What’s your favorite flavor?
