Last week my hubby decided that he was going to make me dinner. I love it when he’s in charge for a change! He’s a great cook and usually comes up with flavors that I wouldn’t normally think of!

These spicy tofu tacos are unlike any tacos I’ve made! They are rich and spicy with a cool and creamy homemade cilantro avocado sour cream.

Top these spicy tofu tacos with some hot sauce (or salsa), and enjoy a “meaty” crunchy spicy taco with homemade sour cream spread and juicy diced tomatoes. This takes taco night to the next level!

Spicy Tofu Tacos with Cilantro Avocado Sour Cream

Ingredients

For the Tofu:

  • 14 oz block of tofu, drained and pressed to around 1/2" (or if using already cubed, just drain well)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground chipotle pepper
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • For the red onion:
  • 1 large red onion, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt

For the Cilantro Avocado Sour Cream:

  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 avocado, mashed
  • 1/8 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper

Additional ingredients:

  • Hard taco shells
  • Diced tomatoes
  • hot sauce
  • lime juice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Press tofu to around 1/2'', or if using pre diced, drain well
  2. Cut tofu into cubes and place in a bowl, add salt, onion powder, garlic powder, chipotle pepper, cumin, and smoked paprika
  3. Heat skillet to medium high heat using the 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  4. Add tofu to skillet and cook for 10-15 minutes, or until it starts to crisp but not burnt
  5. Sautee red onion in a small skillet for 5-7 minutes with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  6. Combine all ingredients for cilantro avocado sour cream and mix well
  7. Cook taco shells in oven
  8. Top taco shells with cilantro avocado sour cream, red onion, tofu, fresh tomatoes, hot sauce (or salsa) and fresh lime juice
  9. Enjoy!
