I grew up eating Papa John’s pizza growing up, and it is still one of my favorite takeout pizzas to order.

My order is always the same: mushroom pizza with a ton of extra garlic dipping sauce.

That sauce is the best part!

Buttery garlicky dip for your pizza is amazing … my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

We have homemade pizza night every Saturday in our house, and I got to thinking how delicious it would be to make our own garlic dip at home.

All you need is two ingredients, and the recipe is just what you would think it is.

But can you really go wrong with flavors like butter and garlic? Not in my opinion. It’s a recipe for success!

What is Papa John’s garlic sauce made of?

If you look at the listing of ingredients in Papa John’s garlic sauce, you will see that it is actually made without any dairy which might surprise you.

Instead it is made from a margarine type butter substance, which makes it vegan actually.

How to make garlic dipping sauce

To make your own garlic dipping sauce, all you need is a butter substitute and garlic powder.

I made this recipe using a faux butter to try to mimic Papa John’s flavor of theirs.

Can I use real butter?

Of course! You can definitely use real butter here if you want to, and it would be delicious.

I suggest using salted butter if you go this route.

To make your garlic dip, melt the margarine in the microwave or on the stove top.

Next, whisk in the garlic powder to taste.

If you are a garlic lover like me, you may be pouring a whole lot more in there!

You just really can’t got wrong with this easy recipe.

Pizza night at home just got a lot more delicious!

Total: 1 minute
Servings: 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup margarine, buttery spread
  • 1/4 – 3/4 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  • Melt butter substitute for 30 seconds in a microwave safe bowl, until it is totally melted. You can also do this in a sauce pan on the stove.
  • Whisk in garlic powder to taste. Start with 1/4 tsp and add more for a stronger garlic flavor.
  • Serve as dipping sauce with pizza or breadsticks

Notes

This recipe uses margarine instead of real butter, to mimic the sauce that Papa John’s uses. Of course, if you want to, you can use real butter. I would suggest using salted butter.
Be sure to use powdered garlic and not granulated garlic.

  1. If you have a chef store near you, you can buy butter substitute in gallon jugs. It may sound like a lot but you can use it for many things. Amazon also sells Whirl a butter liquid substitute.
