Gin is one of my favorite things to drink.

After discovering my love for gin and tonics, and my watermelon gin slushies, I was hooked.

Today I’m sharing a recipe for one of my favorite healthy alcoholic drinks – the gin rickey.

Fun story behind this is that in my attempts to make a healthier gin and tonic recipe (without tonic water), I essentially made my drinks exactly like the classic gin rickey, before I even knew it existed!

Gin rickey is one of my favorite drinks because it has all of the things I love: seltzer water for the fizz, gin, and refreshing lime juice.

You definitely need to use fresh lime juice for this recipe, the lime juice is a big part of what makes this drink so delicious!

Ingredients to make gin rickey

  • gin
  • seltzer water
  • lime juice
  • maple syrup (optional)
  • ice

Do you sweeten a gin rickey?

Gin rickey is classically made with little to no sweetener.

For me personally, a little bit of sweet really makes that lime juice pop.

I’m all about healthier sweeteners, so my favorite to use is pure maple syrup.

All you need is just a tablespoon or two if you decide to add it.

  • 2 oz gin
  • juice of 1 lime
  • 1 cup seltzer water
  • 1 - 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup, optional

Gin Rickey is classically made with little to no sweetener. Personally, I like to add 1 - 2 tablespoons of pure maple syrup to sweeten it just a touch.
