They are super soft, almost cake like, dense, chewy, and stay soft even once cooled.

So very soft and never get hard.

Applesauce is the secret! Heaven in a bite I tell you.

How to make chewy chocolate chip cookies with applesauce

These cookies barely take 10 minutes to throw together and couldn’t be any easier.

First, combine flour, salt, and baking soda in a bowl and whisk until combined.

In another bowl, beat the brown sugar, white sugar, applesauce, softened butter, and vanilla extract.

The applesauce is key here for the fluffiness in the cookies!

Add eggs and beat well.

Add the dry ingredients and beat until well combined.

Stir or mix in chocolate chips.

Drop by spoonfuls onto a greased baking sheet.

Bake 10-13 minutes and enjoy!


I also tried freezing this dough raw and making individual cookies whenever I wanted one.

Applesauce Chocolate Chip Cookies

The best chewy chocolate chip cookies made with applesauce

Ingredients 

  • 3 cups all purpose white flour
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup sugar
  • â…“ cup brown sugar
  • â…” cup unsalted butter, softened
  • â…“ cup no sugar added applesauce
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ¾ cups chocolate chips

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Combine flour, salt, and baking soda in a bowl and whisk until combined
  • In another bowl, beat brown sugar, white sugar, applesauce, softened butter, and vanilla extract.
  • Add eggs and beat well
  • Add the dry ingredients and beat until well combined
  • Stir or mix in chocolate chips
  • Drop cookie batter by spoonfuls onto a greased baking sheet
  • Bake at 350 degrees 10-13 minutes

  1. These are really good. I do wonder if the vanilla should read 1 teaspoon (not 1 Tablespoon) I added 1 teaspoon and they seemed just right.

  5. Made these for a cookie exchange. I didn’t win, but they did stay very chewy, which is what I was going for. I’ve learned I need some visual pop to do better at a cookie exchange. When you have 20 cookies to pick from at the event, you could have the best cookie there, but need a way to make sure everyone tries it. Thought I was going to need a double batch, but learned afterwards, one batch is plenty big. Double batch made enough for 2 cookie events and still had leftovers to share. While good, the cookie taste wasn’t exactly what I had in my mind. My non-cooking self isn’t exactly sure what I might tweak though. Staying chewy after cooled was great and I loved they stayed plump and didn’t flatten as much as others often do. Gets a 4 out of 5 with me and was a lot better than taking pre-made cookies to the Christmas events.
