How to make brownies from cake mix

Step 1: Add the chocolate fudge cake mix, oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and chocolate chips to a large bowl. Use a rubber spatula to mix the batter until it is completely combined.

For this recipe, I used Duncan Hines Dark Chocolate Fudge, but any chocolate cake mix will work.

Step 2: Spray an 8X8 baking dish with cooking spray, then add the brownie batter in.

Smush it down into the edges, and flatten out any lumps using a rubber spatula.

Step 3: Bake the brownies at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Allow them to cool completely before cutting for easiest results. If you’re like me, this is pretty much impossible!

    1. If they are undercooked, you may want to bake them longer. Cook time can vary based on your baking dish and oven

  1. I didn’t even use chocolate, I use this as a base. I used a spice cake mix, with the two eggs, and half cup oil, but before I put it into my 8 x 8 baking dish, I dumped A can of apple pie filling into the bottom and then spread this all on top.

Definitely works. And the possibilities are endless with all the different flavors of cake mixes and add in.

  2. Just wanted to tell you that I made these using both; regular DH mix and chocolate chips and another batch with Pillsbury Sugar Free and Hersheys Sugar Free chocolate chips and they both came out great!!! Thank you and greetings from Puerto Rico

before anything else I didn’t use the same cake mix as I didn’t have that I had betty crockers 13.5 oz triple chocolate fudge cake mix. also my 3 year old and I added mini marshmallows into the mix as well as some on top along with a few hand fulls of chocolate chips. I didn’t have an 8×8 metal pan I had a 9×13 glass pan. besides all of that (oh and not having vanilla but adding cinnamon) I followed the recipe as close as I could. we haven’t cut into them yet but so far they look delicious. I’m sure if I follow the recipe to a T next time it will turn out exactly as you’ve described. I’m hopeful that these will be just as yummy as the original.
