How to make oreo spiders for Halloween

Step 1: Break pretzel rods in half and stuff into the oreo cookies to form the spider legs.

Step 2: Melt the chocolate until smooth. You need just a little bit of chocolate for this recipe. Depending on how many spiders you make you may only need a few tablespoons of chocolate chips. Just enough to dab on where the eyes will go to help them stick.

Step 3: Use a toothpick or whatever you have on hand to place the melted chocolate onto the oreos where the eyes will go.

Step 4: Immediately place the googly eye candies onto the melted chocolate. Place the oreos in the fridge until the chocolate hardens.

These are just too much fun and my kids loved them. We will be making these spider cookies for Halloween again this year!

With the leftover chocolate I dipped some extra pretzel rods into melted chocolate and placed it in the fridge to harden. I called these “spider legs” and the kids thought that was so funny.

Oreo Spiders

These easy oreo spiders are the perfect halloween treat! Easy spider cookies made with pretzel legs and googly eyes.
Prep: 10 minutes
Servings: 18

Ingredients

  • Oreos
  • Chocolate chips
  • Googly eye candy
  • Pretzel rods

Instructions

  • Melt a little bit of chocolate chips in a bowl. You won’t need very much, maybe 1/4 cup or less depending on how many spiders you make.
  • Place the pretzel rods on both sides of the oreos to form the spider legs. You may need to break the rods in half.
  • Use a toothpick to place a little bit of melted chocolate where the eyes will go to help them stick. Place the eye candies on top immediately. Place in the fridge until the chocolate sets

Notes

If you are making these with small kids, I suggest buying double stuf or mega stuf oreos. It makes it a lot easier for them to stick the pretzels inside without the cookie breaking.

Just made some for a COA party. Had to use the double stuffed since the regular stuff was so thin the “legs” had nothing to stick into. They came out awesome though! One question- could I make these a day ahead & leave in the fridge or would that make the “legs” too soft by the next day? Thanks & thanks for sharing this great & easy recipe !

    1. I think they would be fine for a day! But they would be fine to leave at room temp in an airtight container also.

  2. Hi, I like this idea of oreo spiders. My question is – After taking them out of the fridge (after chocolate sets), for how long can these stay outside at room temperature? Should these be consumed right after taking them out of the fridge? I am thinking to make these for my daughter’s school halloween party which is in the afternoon. I don’t know if these will start to soften if I make these in the morning and keep outside at room temperature till noon?
