These cake mix cookies are the best easy dessert!
With just 4 ingredients and a few minutes, you can make a delicious cookie using a box of your favorite yellow cake mix!
Yellow cake mix cookies are the easiest chocolate chip cookie recipe ever. We are a big fan of cake mix desserts as a time saving hack.
It’s a great way to make a dessert that tastes homemade but uses a box of cake mix as the main ingredient: something that most of us have on hand in our pantry!
Ingredients to make yellow cake mix cookies
- a box of yellow cake mix: any brand you like. You will need the 15 oz size
- eggs
- olive oil or vegetable oil: I prefer olive oil in recipes as I always keep it on hand, but any neutral flavored cooking oil will work in this recipe
- semi sweet chocolate chips
How to make cake mix chocolate chip cookies
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Step 2: Mix together the yellow cake mix, oil, and eggs in a bowl. The batter should be thick. Fold the chocolate chips into the batter using a rubber spatula.
Step 3: Place spoonfuls of batter onto a baking sheet, then top with extra chocolate chips on top. I like to use a cookie scoop for this step.
Step 4: Bake the chocolate chip cookies at 350 degrees for 12 – 15 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
Recipe variations
The great thing about this recipe is there are so many fun ways you can change up the flavors!
- Use a flavor of cake mix: try vanilla cake mix, funfetti cake mix, white cake mix, etc.
- Switch up the mix ins: want to try something other than regular chocolate chips? Try spinkles, chopped up candy pieces, butterscotch chips, white chocolate chips, heath bits, reese’s pieces, whatever sounds good!

Best chocolate chip cookies I have ever made. And easiest!!!
I made the recipe as written and added chopped pecans. I baked it to make a โcookie cakeโ and baked some into individual cookies. Both were good but I preferred the โcookie cakeโ thickness and chewiness. This recipe is great !
So yummy! Definitely halfing the oil next time but other than that, they’re great!
I was a little confused my both sets of directions. One said to mix and the other one says beat. I’m not a baker, so I followed the directions on the cake mix. But, then the batter was soon runny. So to try to thicken it, I added flour. They came out amazing. Thank you for sharing this easy recipe.
@Kelly Bianco, it says mixing bowl, not mix ….i almost read it that way too. Lol
Easy cookies look great. I added about a quarter cup of quick oatmeal and used mini Christmas M&Ms and mini chocolate chips. Bake them at 350 for 13 minutes came out perfect every time.
These were easy and delicious! In the future, though, I would use less oil. The batter seemed too runny, so I added some oatmeal. The cookies turned out light and fluffy and everyone loved them!
This was the type of cookie my grandmother always made us. Her notes say to make sure you grab the box WITHOUT pudding in the mix. From experience, it works with either. It you’ll get way fewer cookies out of the pudding one. If you want a flatter, thinner and crispier cookie, make them with coconut oil.
Just made these and they were so easy and DELICIOUS. My husband is a baker and he thought they were soooooo good.
Easy Easy…
YUMMMMMM
Oh my goodness just made these cookies super delicious and super easy win win
Made this for my daughterโs friends. I used chocolate cake mix and white chocolate chips. They were very tasty . The only thing was it didnโt make 22 cookies iit only made 14.
