What is Chick-Fil-A sauce made of?

The full recipe and instructions can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here are the ingredients that you will need to make your own CFA sauce at home.

  • Mayonnaise: regular mayonnaise
  • Bbq sauce: regular bbq sauce, not spicy
  • Mustard: plain mustard
  • Honey: just a little bit to sweeten

Step 1: Whisk together the mayo, mustard, bbq sauce, and honey in a bowl and serve! It’s really that easy. No fancy ingredients. Probably all stuff that you already have on hand! 

Recipe Tip

I have found that using a whisk results in the perfect creaminess and lets the mayo combine completely into the sauce. Sometimes a spoon won’t be able to mix it quite as well.

Copycat Chick-Fil-A Sauce

Making your own Chick-Fil-A sauce at home is so easy! You only need 4 ingredients to make the perfect copycat sauce.

  • 1/4 cup mayo
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Instructions 

  • Add all of the ingredients to a bowl and whisk well to combine.
  • Serve with waffle fries or your favorite nuggets!

    1. @Jennifer, there’s a brand called KC Natural that makes tomato free products and their BBQ sauce is very good.

  1. I live in Central America and have been craving Chick Fil A for months. I can make good chicken but the sauce has been lacking. I made this tonight with my own chicken nuggets and it was amazing. I did add a few shakes of salt and pepper and a touch of vinegar since my BBQ sauce didn’t have much in it. I could close my eyes and see myself sitting with my mom back home at lunch.

  2. How do you thicken it? It tastes just like chick fil a sauce but is so runny. It needs a thickener of some sort.

  3. My daughter thought it needed a tad bit more mustard. But good! I like mayo and bbq sauce mixed together for my french fries.

  4. This is pretty good but, if you add a little lemon juice, a little vinegar, and garlic powder it tastes even more like chick-fil-a.

  5. This is probably fairly accurate to the original. I was an employee of the inventor of the recipe, Hugh Fleming. He discovered it in the mid 1980’s in Spotsylvania VA. It was kind of discovered accidentally when sauces were inadvertently mixed together on a plate and someone dipped their nuggets in it. I am sure it was doctored after this, but as far as I know, it was sauces that we had on hand. Couldn’t keep the fresh stuff in stock. It was flying out the fridge pretty much from Day 1. Many years later, Mr. Fleming gave it to corporate, who packaged it and rolled it out to all Chick Fil A’s . The fresh stuff was even better though.

  6. Made this before but this time didn’t have any mayo I substituted it with sour cream. It was just as good maybe even better! Used Kansas City BBQ sauce also…..

  7. This recipe is very good. My husband said it’s even better than Chick Fil A sauce.
