You can find the full recipe and instructions at the bottom of this post, but here are the ingredients that you will need to make it.
Ingredients you’ll need
- cake mix: a 15 oz box of yellow cake mix
- eggs
- vanilla extract
- cinnamon
- bananas: the riper the better!
- oil: you can use olive oil, vegetable oil, or melted butter
How to make banana bread with cake mix
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Step 1: Add your yellow cake mix, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, mashed overripe bananas, and oil to a large bowl. Mix well to combine.
Step 2: Spray a loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray and pour the banana bread batter in, smoothing out the top.
Step 3: Bake the bread at 350 degrees for 50 – 60 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Be sure to allow loaf to cool completely before cutting it. This might be the hardest part, because the scent of fresh baked banana bread is irresistible!
Can I use other flavors of cake mix?
Yes you can! Try changing up this recipe up by using chocolate cake mix, butter pecan cake mix, white cake mix, or spice cake mix. You may want to adjust the spices if you change the cake mix flavor.
Mix in ideas
- chocolate chips: Craving chocolate chip banana bread? Add in 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips into the batter before baking
- peanut butter chips
- butterscotch chips
- walnuts or pecans: to make this a banana nut bread
Do I have to add vanilla and cinnamon?
No you do not, I just love adding that classic cinnamon hint for my banana bread, but it would be delicious without it too!
Can I make these into muffins?
Yes, just divide the batter equally into greased muffin tins instead. Bake the banana muffins at 350 for 18-23 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

I love this idea. Has anyone tried this bread using spice cake mix. Thank you.
Quick question!!
Cinnamon- ground or sugar?
Thank you!
Regular cinnamon!
I’ve made this with the yellow cake mix and it turned out awesome. I added a little nutmeg and cayenne to it.
Also have made it with a chocolate cake mix adding cinnamon, a tad of cayenne and chocolate chips.
Both delicious!
I love these recipes using cake mixes. I am gluten intolerant and I am able to use gluten free cake mixes to enjoy banana bread, carrot cake, and other make from cake mix recipes.
When you say 15 oz how much is it in grams
@Gratis, 425.243 – I used an online oz to grams converter
@Gratis, 15 oz. = 425.2428 grams (round up to 425.25 grams). If you use one standard size box of cake mix, the weight will be correct in relation to the other ingredients.
@Gratis, In my previous reply, I said, โ15 oz. = 425.2428 grams (round up to 425.25 grams).โ
While that is a correct calculation, cake mixes usually come in 15.25 oz (432 gram) boxes.
So, with the actual weight of the cake mix being 15.25 ounces, 432 grams is the correct answer (actually 15.25 ounces = 432.3302 grams, but the cake mix companies round it down to 432 grams on the package label). The weight on the cake mix package should read โ15.25 oz. (432 grams)โ.
For future reference:
1 ounce = 28.34952 grams.
1 prepackaged cake mix (any flavor) = 15.25 ounces (oz.)
This is a great tip on the cake mix
A lotta possibilities . It was nice & moist & easy to make . Used a 9×9 pan .
