  • Chocolate cake mix: I used Devil’s food, but any chocolate cake mix will work.
  • Eggs
  • Butter: You can also substitute oil, but I prefer the texture of these with butter.
  • m&m’s: Holiday colored m&m’s add a fun festive color to these cookies.

How to make chocolate Christmas cookies

Step 1: Mix together the cake mix, eggs, and melted butter with mixers until combined. The batter will be very thick and sticky.

Step 2: Fold in the m&m’s using a rubber spatula.

Step 3: Use a cookie scoop to scoop batter onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet, then top with additional m&m’s.

Recipe Note

The cookie batter will very sticky and thick, this is normal. You will not be able to roll the balls of dough with your hands like you would other cookies. Simply drop a scoop of batter, then add additional m&m’s pressed into the top.

Step 4: Bake the chocolate Christmas cookies at 350 degrees for 11-13 minutes, until the edges are set and start to crisp.

Variations

  • Cake Mix: Try swapping out the cake mix for vanilla, yellow cake mix, or butter pecan flavored cake mix.
  • Mix-ins: Switch up the flavors by adding different mix-ins like chopped up Oreos, heath bits, white chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, or butterscotch chips.
