Strawberry banana smoothie

This thick and creamy strawberry banana smoothie is one of my all time favorite recipes.

With just 3 ingredients and a blender, you can make this at home in just 5 minutes. Everyone in your family will love this smoothie recipe!

Strawberry and banana is such a classic favorite flavor combination, just like my peanut butter banana smoothie.

It’s one of my favorite smoothies to drink and always hits the spot. Perfect for a mid day snack or to cool off in the hot summer months.

Ingredients needed

  • Frozen strawberries: these are key for that thick texture!
  • Frozen bananas: adds the creaminess to this smoothie.
  • Milk: any variety you like! You can easily make this smoothie dairy free if needed.

How to make a strawberry banana smoothie

Step 1: Add your milk of choice to the bottom of a high speed blender. Adding the milk first to the blender will help it blend easier.

Recipe Note

You will need a high powered blender to make this recipe, as it is quite thick and a normal blender would not be able to handle it.

Step 2: Add your frozen strawberries and bananas over the milk, then blend it all up!

This strawberry banana smoothie is super thick, so you might need to stop blending and use a spoon to mix it all around. Be patient, it will blend!

I gladly take a few extra minutes to help the smoothie blend instead of adding more milk. As far as smoothies go, the thicker the better!

Tips for success

  • Add your milk to the blender first: This will help make sure the blender works the best that it can.
  • Add more milk if necessary: If you do not have a high speed blender, you may need to add more milk to make it not as thick so that the blender can handle mixing the smoothie up.

How to make a Smoothie thicker

  • Use frozen fruit: Frozen fruit is key to making a smoothie thicker.
  • Use less liquid: Adding too much liquid can make your smoothie watery. Start with less and add more if necessary.
  • Use a high-speed blender: A high speed blender is important for getting a thick smoothie texture. The sharp blades can blend frozen fruit without much liquid and turn it into a thick and creamy smoothie.

  • Soy milk
  • Whole milk
  • 2% milk
  • Skim milk
  • Coconut milk
  • Oat milk
  • Almond Milk

Strawberry Banana Smoothie

This classic Strawberry Banana Smoothie recipe is thick, creamy, and delicious!
Prep: 2 minutes
Total: 2 minutes
Servings: 3 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 cups frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup frozen banana chunks
  • 1 cup milk of choice, see notes

Instructions

  • Add the milk to the bottom of a high speed blender.
  • Add the strawberries and frozen bananas on top of the milk.
  • Blend the smoothie on high speed until smooth, scraping down the edges if necessary. (see notes)

Notes

You will need a high speed blender for this recipe (I love my blendtec). Because this smoothie is so thick, it likely will not blend in a regular blender. If needed, you can add more milk to help the smoothie blend.

I used a fresh banana and frozen strawberries, that way it is not quite as thick by just as good.

    1. I found that if you throw the whole mixed batch of unfrozen fruit into the freezer for 15-20 mix again and maybe back in the freezer for another 10 min will give that frozen fruit texture without tearing up your regular mixer.

Great recipe! I made a few adjustments for my taste……very simply…..1 small banana, 5-6 strawberries, a shot of honey, crushed ice and a generous splash of skim milk! Still pretty thick, but I could drink it with a straw!

  4. Do you really only use 1 cup of banana chunks? Seems like that would only be about 4 chunks or less.

  5. Hi,
This recipe looks great. Can I use Greek yogurt (instead of milk or half milk half Greek yogurt)? Or would that make it too thick? I want to added protein & healthy bacteria.
    Thanks

    1. I think it would make it too thick to sub for milk, but you could always add some greek yogurt in, and a little additional milk + the original amount to make it not too thick. It would still taste great!
